Bill Gates, he consistently ranks in the forbes list of world's
wealthiest people, he is one of the best
known entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution he is the second most
generous philanthropist In America have been giving over $28 billion to
charity. He is Bill Gates and here is his top ten rules for success:
1. Have Energy:
When I
started a microsoft, i didn't think of it as all that risky I mean I was so
excited about what we were doing its true I could have gone bankrupt but I had
a set of skills that were highly employable and in fact my parents were still
willing to let me go back to harvard and finish my education if I wanted to. And
the thing that was scary to me wasn't quitting and starting the company was
when I started hiring friends and they expected to be paid and then we had
customers who went bankrupt, Customers that I counted on to come through and so
when I got this incredibly conservative approach that I wanted to have enough
money in the bank to pay a year worth of payroll even if we can't get in
any payments coming in.
If you want to start a
company it takes so much energy that you know you better overcome you are
feeling of risk, i don't think that you are necessarily if you are going to
start a company should do it at the start of your career I think there's a lot
to be said for working for a company learning how they do things.
2. Work Hard:
I attend meetings a lot my counters gets very
full with those and then night after the kids has gone to bed, on email a great
deal like get messages during the day that's my chance of long responses and
then over the weekend I send a lot of mails as well, i take two weeks a month
to just go off and read and think where I'm not interrupted by work or anything
else I'm just solidly trying to think about the future and the people get to
send me things to read as part of that so-called think week.
It's nice of things about %25 of the time that I'm out travelling around meeting customers in Europe, Asia and that sort of helps me think okay do we have the right priorities what are people responding well to and what would they like to see us do better.

3. Create The Future:
It's really incredible how quickly powerful applications like word excel and power point have been adopted, its not just microsoft applications even companies like Word Perfect Lotus has now come out with windows applications and every week we see new innovative work, it's really attracting all the innovative in the industry We predicted this a long time ago and out its the future.
4. Enjoy what you do:
The key point is that you have got to enjoy
what you do everyday and for me that's working with very smart people. Its
working on new problems you know every time we think we have had a little bit
of success we are pretty careful not to dwell on it so much because the bar
gets raised.
5. Play Bridge:
I love bridge, it helps you think it's a game
you can play your entire life and keep getting better and better I think anybody
who's good at bridge is going to be great at lot of things, so I really
encourage people to get involved and I want to thank the people who put things
together for their juniors they will be thanking you the rest of their life.
6. Ask for advice:
6. Ask for advice:
I talked to my dad I talk to Warren Buffet had
talked to my wife Melinda so I have enough people that know me and actually
know where my judgment isn't it's strongest where I might get over excited
about something or you know forget to think about something and so they are
good are correcting particularly good at correcting whatever those blind spots
and I think it's good to encourage your friends and advisers really given that
license, you know I go to a party and forgot to say hello people or something
that's a very minor and sample of my blind spot. You know a small number of people you can
turn to on a certain key things is a great asset.
7. Pick Good People:
My best business decisions really have to do
with picking people you know deciding to go into partnership with Paul Allen is
probably at the top of the list and then subsequently hiring a friend and
having somebody who you totally trust who's totally committed who shares your
vision and yet he has a little but different set of skills and also acts as a
check on you, you know some of the ideas you come up with you run by because
they are going to say 'hey' wait a minute have you thought about this and that
and you know that the benefit of sparking off of somebody who's got that kind
of brilliance.
It's not only made it fun but it's really led to a lot of success of picking a partner is crucial.

8. Don't Procrastinate:
I had
one habit that I developed when I was at college that was actually very bad
habit which was I like to show people that I didn't do any work and that I
didn't go classes and I didnt care and then at the very last minute like two
days before the test that I got serious about it and people thought that was
funny, you know that was my position the guy who did nothing until the last
minute.
Then when I went into business that was a really bad habit and it took me couple of years to get over that nobody praised me because I would do things at the very last minute and I tried to reverse to students I'd actually I didn't think that highly of who are organized and had things done on time. Am still working on it but procrastination is not a good habit.

9. Have A Competitive Advantage:
Nature of capitalism is that people want to
come in and take your castle perfectly, understandable I mean if I'm selling
television sets or something there's going to be 10 other people who can try
and sell a better television set, if I have a restaurant here in Omaha people
are going to try and copy my menu and get more parking and take my chef and so
on.
Capitalism is all about somebody coming in trying to take the castle now what you need is you need a castle that has some durable competitive advantage. If you're the heavy weight champion of the world and you keep knocking out people you've got a competitive advantage suppose you can keep doing it and it's very profitable.

10. Keep Your Dream Alive:
We have a secret code of success just like
open destiny, the secret for everybody is 'keep your dream alive because it
might come true someday this what the secret code is.
